Sometimes the keep was called a donjon or dungeon. In this case it was in the basement and a place for keeping something safe or for holding prisoners so others could not get to them.
A vault room or basement room of a castle. Could be used for living quarters but could also be a storage room. It was a safe place that would be difficult for outsiders to reach.
