Sawist is a person who plays the musical saw. It has been used in print in the publication 'Saw Players News'.
A long debate between musical saw players about whether to call themselves 'sawists' (like pianists, violinists, etc.) or 'sawyers' (like drummers) was settled by Natalia 'Saw Lady' Paruz at the 6th annual NYC Musical Saw Festival (2008). Since the word 'sawyer' already exists, meaning a person who cuts wood, musical saw players are now called 'sawists'.
