If I could strike one word from the English language it would be this. Flanked with the more formal but perfectly acceptable "breasts" on one side, and the equally sophomoric "tits" on the other, what point is there for this word, which is simultaneously vulgar as well as vague due to its homonyms?

"boobs" can be used as a synonym for a human's breasts(typically womens) used mostly amonst youth. A polite alternate to "bad words" such as "jugs" or "tits".
