Purportedly an Irishism, but I find only one dictionary entry (the Century), one usage example (the Carleton novel) and no pronunciation guidance.
An insult is what it's about,
A bold contumelious shout.
Should I give a hoot
If it rhymes with galoot
Or assume that the word is keout?
