Cricket jargon - to run out a non-striking batsman who is backing up too far as the bowler delivers the ball. Under modern rules it is difficult to mankad a batsman. This word records Vinoo Mankad who famously ran out Bill Brown in this way during India's 1947/48 tour of Australia.
