  • this definition is not entirely accurate. A Sackpipe specifically is a type of bagpipe native to Sweden generally played in the key of either A/E or G/D. typically this bagpipe only has 1 drone which is in the same octave as the chanter, however it is not uncommon to find this type of bagpipes with more than 1 drone in multiple octaves and occasionally in harmonic thirds or fourths. the reeds for the drone and the chanter are identical and are similar to the drone reeds of a great Highland Bagpipe only dwarfed. Olle Gallmo is currently 1 of the leading aficionados of this instrument. Sackpipe is pronounced sock-pee-pah.
