  • The most successful poet to emerge from the Eisteddfod movement of the 1860's was John Hughes, 'Ceiriog', his prize-winning poems 'Myfanwy Fychan' (1858) and 'Alun Mabon' (1861) amongst the most popular poems ever written in the language.
