What if someone creates a list, then deletes it? Maybe the list's ordinal number doesn't get reallocated, but the counter does go down one. In that case the list ordinal numbers would eventually move well ahead of the number of lists in existence. The thing that gets to me is that I didn't perceive deleting lists to be all that common. I don't think I've ever done it, though I'm sorely tempted right now by one of my lists that is really bugging me.
