A list of 5-consonant strings (except wye) encountered in words @Wordnik. Just click on a string to see a list of words containing that string. The lists generated are not complete - *rschw yields kirschwasser but omits kaiserschwarz, for instance. The term Entscheidungsproblem is unique in that it contains 2 five-consonant strings.

Should you encounter a word with 5 or more contiguous consonants please add it and the string(s) to the appropriate lists. note that a 6-consonant string contains two 5-consonant strings.

Some of the strings listed here do not return a match (e.g., *nchdr - benchdrill, punchdrunk; *shshr - bushshrike), even though words with that string can be found in user lists, the Wordnik examples, and Google Search (Books). Go figure. I used the wildcard query *##### to generate a list of words with 5 consonant strings, and gleaned strings from my lists of words with 5 and 6 consecutive consonants to compile this list. Perhaps the wildcard function only searches Wordnik dictionary databases and not personal user-made lists or other sources available elsewhere on the website.
