I'm reading it now! If you open this list, I'll add to it - of course you're welcome to keep it as your own impression of the book, in which case I'll do my own.

This is a book I'm curious about. Are you enjoying it, bilby?

Go for it yarbster! Looking back I feel that 23 citations wasn't enough for a novel of that length.
Rolig, it has a dated feel to it now, much-like seventies sci-fi. And the ending is very odd. I'm happy to have read it but I doubt I'll dip into it again.

I don't think you do it justice with that comment, bilby. While the dystopic visions, especially of books 3 and 4, are arguably out of date (although still a bundle of Carroll-esque fun), the bildungsroman (or "unbildungsroman") remains a crystal clear documenting of postwar Glasgow and, I thought, a really effective portrayal of psychosis. It's such a savage, lusty narrative. The only bit I didn't like was the yawnsome appearance of the author near the end, complete with achingly self-conscious catalogue of influences: I never would have expected it from the clarity and integrity of Gray's prose style. That bit really is dated.
Definitely worth reading though, rolig.

n.b. I got so swept up that I ceased noting words for this list at about half way, so someone else will have to take that up. Also, I stuck mainly to funny (to me) Scots words, but there are plenty of quirky usages worth noting, too.

Yes, I loved the Glesga' scenes.
