  • "Gardy loo" or "Gardez lui" was said to be the warning (english, "Look out below") before someone dumped garbage or worse out the window into the street, back in the days when streets were open sewers. It would explain where the Brits got the word, "loo." So when you say, "Gardy loo!" you mean "watch out, you're about to be hit (literally or figuratively) with something you won't like." It's shorter than saying "The shit's about to hit the fan."
