  • Showmance is a new word to me. It is precise and functional so I hope it sticks around. We could also have 'vacationmance' for those short-lived holiday romances.

  • Apparently this is a kind of ghost or spirit. It seems to be middle Eastern in origin. A nice word to know but probably not much use in writing as it would need to be explained. I will add it to my New to Me list. Thank you Ruth Harnisch for bringing us the s words today.

  • I was brought up in London but have never heard this term. It sounds intriguing but I think that 'cockney' is more usual and the one I would use.

  • Lucubratory is a new word for me. A special word for 'composed by candlelight' – fab. Do we also have a word for 'composed by electric light'? or torchlight, firelight, daylight?

  • I agree with deinonychus that some of the names sound really uncomfortable – a sapphire is a kind of rock after all. But this list reminds me what good sources of words catalogues and manufacturers' names for things can be.
