"Bombolino" is the term used in most of Ethiopia for what North Americans would identify as a donut. It is sometimes thought to have originated from Italian (as do many cooking and mechanical terms in modern colloquial Amharic), but in my few visits to Italy, no one I spoke with recognized this word.
The thing is, this word is pronounced quite differently by Ethiopians, Somalis and Yemenis (distinguishing the transliterations "khat" & "qat" doesn't seem to capture this in practice). It would be helpful to note which country/language a recorded pronunciation is meant to refer to.
