  • When one's throat and sinuses feel like crap, and the back of their throat gets just that way so as to make swallowing hurt but not in the conventional sense, but in a way that I can only describe as a feeling of grossness combined with a dull pain, their voice tends to sound a certain way.

Well, assnose is when your voice sounds that way when you *aren't* sick. Basically like you're trying to put the least possible amount of effort on your nose when you're talking, so it ALL comes out the mouth instead.

Etymology: When the deepest parts of your nose feel like ASS! (except they don't, you just sound that way)

"...This study of number behavior is called 'Numeronomy' in contradistinction to numerology, whereas numerology finds patterns and correlations in numbers through subjective means, numeronomy finds patterns and correlations in the interrelationships between numbers themselves. This difference can be likened to the difference between astrology and astronomy, the former looks at the affects of celestial bodies from a subjective standpoint (from our point of view) while the latter gains knowledge of the interrelationships between the planets through study of the motions of the planets themselves."

    December 19, 2017

  • From someone's WordPress

"Yonie is one of those terms that can be nice or derogatory. It depends on who is saying it and the context. I believe the word originates as a Pennsylvania Dutch term meaning ā€œJohnnyā€. You Dutchies can clear that up if you want.

I grew up understanding it as a term for Amish. Many people (even Mennonites) have not heard of the term. I finally found some backing: the UrbanDictionary lists it as slang for Amish.

I always took the meaning farther and used it to describe conservative Mennonites as well. If Iā€™m being derogatory, I will use it to describe anyone who is more conservative than me.

Hereā€™s the catch. Mennonites and Amish are permitted to use it (read the heritage blog). Non Mennos and non Amish are not. There is no positive way for them to use it. It is similar to a certain word that African Americans are permitted to use but close to illegal for a white person to use.

If you are a Mennonite and you get called a yonie, turn the other cheek. You are not permitted to strike back or show violence according to your faith. Go to all of your friends and tell them what that horrible person called you. That is the Mennonite way."

"A common stalagmite found seasonally or year round in many caves is the ice stalagmite, commonly referred to as icicles, especially in above-ground contexts.7 Water seepage from the surface will penetrate into a cave and if temperatures are below freezing temperature, the water will collect on the floor into stalagmites. Deposition may also occur directly from the freezing of water vapor.8 Similar to lava stalagmites, ice stalagmites form very quickly within hours or days. Unlike lava stalagmites however, they may grow back as long as water and temperatures are suitable. Ice stalagmites are more common than their stalactite counterparts because warmer air rises to the ceilings of caves and may raise temperatures to above freezing.

Ice stalactites may also form corresponding stalagmites below them, and given time, may grow together to form an ice column."

  • From The Atlantic:

"Theyā€™re called ā€œcontronymsā€ or, less elegantly, ā€œauto-antonyms.ā€ Theyā€™re words that are their own antonymsā€”that mean one thing and a polar-opposite thing at the same timeā€”and they include terms like ā€œsanctionā€ (which can mean both to ā€œratifyā€ and to ā€œpenalizeā€) and ā€œseedā€ (to plant seeds and/or remove them) and ā€œcleaveā€ (to cling to and/or to separate). But thereā€™s a special strain of contronymā€”one whose terms get their divergent meanings not from some long-lost whim of Latin or German or Proto-Indo-European, but from something both enduring and contemporary: human awkwardness.

    ...

... they owe their internal divergences to modern sociology rather than far-off etymology. There was ā€œhumbled,ā€ which often connotes arrogance (see: ā€œhumblebragā€ and its many derivatives). And ā€œpal,ā€ which often connotes ā€œenemy.ā€ (And ā€œfriend,ā€ especially when itā€™s uttered by an American legislator, as in ā€œmy friend across the aisle.ā€) And ā€œtoleranceā€ā€”which, when selected as a noun, often suggests its own absence. And ā€œclassy.ā€ And ā€œsincerely,ā€ whose presence in a sentence is often evidence of, you know, total insincerity. ā€œHonestly,ā€ for the same reason. ā€œRespectfully,ā€ too. And, of course, ā€œliterally,ā€ which refers to both a literal state and ā€¦ well, you know.

    ...

we havenā€™t yet found an adequate term to describe those socially yin-yanged words. We havenā€™t yet settled on a way to capture the full irony of whatā€™s happening when I ask you if you like my haircut and you respond, ā€œItā€™s nice.ā€ Or, worse, ā€œItā€™s fine.ā€

    ...

Letā€™s call these words ā€œsmarmonyms.ā€ Because theyā€™re the words that exist because we English-speakers can be, at times, awkward and passive-aggressive and jerky and, yes, a little bit smarmy. We could, if we stretch the definition just a little bit, include phrases like ā€œno offenseā€ā€”is there ever a time when that phrase isnā€™t followed by something wildly offensive?ā€”or ā€œI hope youā€™re happy.ā€"

  • 1 YOTTAPARSEC =

    10^24 parsecs

    3.26*10^24 light years

    3.086*10^37 kilometers

    3.086*10^40 meters

    1.917*10^37 miles

It is 3.57142857*10^13 times the diameter of the observable universe.

A cubic yottaparsec is 2.93799895*10^100 yottaliters.

Compare that to 4*10^-21 yottaliters, the volume of the observable universe.

That means a cubic yottaparsec is 7.344997*10^120 times the volume of the observable universe.

This number is clearly useless, and is therefore resigned to use mainly only in the field of googology.
