My mom has used this word forever. I, in turn, have used it and never realized it wasn't a known word until I Googled it and got only one result (that I couldn't view to verify). It is a noun used to describe vague plant-stuffs, much like "doohickey" for specifically plants and plant-like things. Some example usages:
After hiking through the forest, he had lots of ferngrovia stuck in his hair. (referring to twigs and moss and such)
I added a light bulb and some ferngrovia to the birdcage to make a sweet-looking lamp for the room. (referring to fake greenery)
I swept the ferngrovia off the patio. (referring to dead leaves and grass clippings and such)
I love the smell of the ferngrovia at Christmas time! (referring to evergreen garlands, Christmas trees, pinecone centerpieces, etc)
The kind of ferngrovia in the backyard is mostly peonies and rose bushes. (referring to in-ground backyard plants)
We couldn't see your house from the road because of all the ferngrovia in the way. (referring to trees and shrubberies)
