  • Mishpocheh, also mishpokhe (standard spelling) and mishpoche: definition from Hooray for Yiddish, by Leo Rosten, NY: Simon & Schuster, 1982: "A family, including the most remote kin: cousin's cousins, third cousins once removed, nephews of nephews, et alia." Rosten forgot an important component, however: in-laws. Mishpokhe is never used to refer to one's immediate or close family, but only to a far larger group.
