I learned this word in the English subtitles of the French version of Le Mans. Le Mans, by the way is a film starring Steve McQueen and taking place in the famous Le Mans (24 hour car race) in France.
For me, "without meaning" indicates that the definitions are in flux. The meaning of each word shifts as its popularity and cachet take off. It takes on new and variable interpretations which can be interesting, but the word will eventually cease to mean anything at all when it becomes overused as I find these words to be.
