I just came across the passage about the bees and the dauco plants. See http://www.actaplantarum.org/floraitaliae/viewtopic.php?t=5412 and daucus here in Wordnik. It is a wild carrot plant attractive to bees and the source of an herbal birth control. Ha! Just found a picture of it and that another name for it is Queen Ann's Lace that used to grow in my yard in Maryland as a voracious weed.
