It's got a history I can track at least back to 1874 across multiple fields of acadaemia, and I'm shortly submitting it to the OED.

I've actually found support for this one and sent it in to the OED. They responded back saying it was put in their "A" new words file -- unfortunately, "A" isn't slated for revision for probably ten years or so . . . *sigh*
