I wonder if there is a connection between bumfit and umpteen?
Especially as there seems to be some variation in spelling for bumfit, like umfit?
The ump sound is just too close and the two words are obviously related to numbers and especially teens. In fact it seems like it could be a combination of fiteen and bumfit.
