  • noun A small, glutinous, transparent teleostean fish, of about the size of a smelt, found on all the coasts of southern Asia, which when dried is much used as a relish by both Europeans and Indians, and facetiously called Bombay duck. It is the Harpodon nehereus, of the family Scopelidœ.
