  • Any of several Australian Eucalyptus trees; also coolibah.

  • Coolibah is better; preferred spelling in unofficial national anthem of Australia, Waltzing Matilda.

"Once a jolly swagman, camped by a billabong,

Under the shade of a coolibah tree."

    - A.B. Paterson.

  • But one of the species of eucalyptus trees is Eucalyptus coolabah. Still, I'm inclined to go with Bilby's preferred spelling.

So, reesetee, we're sharing this list, but you started it. Do you include variant spellings on your lists, or chose one or the other?

    December 18, 2007

  • Well, considering that I have a gazillion words already, I generally choose one variant over another. However, I'll leave the choice up to you and bilby, since I've never laid eyes on this lovely tree. (You can always cross-reference the two pages.)

  • Reesetee, seems that as a contributor, I can only add words, not delete them. So you can delete coolabah and add coolibah if you'd like. I've put coolabah on my miscellaneous list so it won't be ghosted.

  • That's okay. We'll leave them as is. No big deal. :-)

    December 20, 2007

  • Heaven forbid it'd be ghosted. ;-)
