  • "A councillor has been forced to apologise to his constituents after labelling them 'donkey-botherers' during last Saturday’s match between Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool.

Labour’s Simon Blackburn made the comment on his Facebook profile during the match. The 37-year-old lives in Blackpool and sits on Blackpool Council, but is originally from Blackburn and supports Rovers.

He wrote on Facebook: 'Oh my actual God… the donkey-botherers are 2-0 up thanks to two of the worst refereeing decisions ever!'

It is believed he thought the message could only be seen by his friends, but his privacy settings meant anyone could see his comment. The error has been seized upon by angry Blackpool supporters and gleeful political opponents."

    - Rob Parker, Blackpool councillor apologises for ‘donkey-botherer’ jibe during Blackburn v Blackpool, Off The Post, 22 March 2011.
