  • The term describing whatever is the most free. A legitimate word, despite its awkwardness. Pronounced "free ist."

There's no perfect way to quantify freedom. Freedom House has tried, but I personally feel it's too nonspecific to be useful. What is the freest country on earth? It seems the jury's still out. Perhaps the most difficult thing is finding an objective judge with a reasonable definition of what freedom really is. If anyone can show me a fair and balanced list of the top ten freest places (and the rationale behind the rankings), I'll give you a virtual gold star.

Edit: Star goes to me. The Heritage Foundation and the Wall Street Journal have put together a nice list which, though not 100% comprehensive, is good enough for me. Looks like I'm moving to Hong Kong.
