  • Dunsany's gnole may have been a vague forebear of D&D's gnoll, supposedly (edit: or not). I don't know whether the hero of Alan Aldridge's book The Gnole is a relative, though. Final Fantasy XI apparently has gnoles of yet another kind. Fantasy can be terribly untidy.
