HWAT is the first word of Beowulf. It's usually translated as "So" (as in, "So, there I was, with a gun on my hip and a dead wolf at my feet).
As a professor explained to me, it's more like, "Yo!" or "Hey!" or "Shut the F- up, I wanna tell a story!"
