  • Adjective: Pregnant. Generally not used anymore, probably because it sounds so much like infanticide.

  • Hmm. Well, that's one possible explanation, I suppose. But we still use participate, despite its resemblance to patricide.

It does suggest a number of similar compound verbs, though, e.g.,

exuberanticipate - to look forward to something with extraordinary gusto

abundanticipate - to expect a bounteous feast

malignanticipate - to look forward to the fruition of one's evil plots for world domination

pennanticipate - to be confident that one's team will be victorious

pendanticipate - to expect jewelry for one's anniversary

dormanticipate - to look forward to one's nap

croissanticipate - to look forward to one's breakfast

maupassanticipate - to be expecting one's neighbor, the famous short story writer, to call

elephanticipate - to warn of a stampede

transplanticipate - to be on the waiting list for a kidney donor

etc etc etc ad bloody nauseam..

  • It's like a cross between infanticide and anticipate.. maybe it should mean when you know about an infanticide in advance.
