  • Microcelebs are those people who are well-known to a small set of folks...and nowadays we achieve this celebrity through the artifacts we leave behind on the Web.

  • I like this term. I'd use it to describe, for example, a person who's really really well-known in a relatively small circle (not necessarily on the Web), such as a specific field of industry or academic endeavor.

Like the guy who designed my Scottish pipe-band drumsticks. Lots of Scottish pipe-band drummers know who he is, but nobody else would.

  • Aw, darn. I thought this referred to tiny, thumb-sized famous people.

    September 27, 2008

  • Hmm. That's a better definition. What if microcelebrity meant thumb-sized famous people, and we could think up another cool word for that other thing? Like... limicelebrity?

No, it looks like it sounds too citrusy.

    September 27, 2008

  • That sounds more like limicolous stars.

    September 27, 2008

  • But that "-colous" part reminds me of colon.

    September 27, 2008

  • Muddy stars? *confused*

    September 27, 2008

  • Weblebrities

    September 27, 2008

  • c_b, they're flip-flop flyin' mini-pops.

    September 27, 2008

  • Or microstar. But that might sound too astronomical.
