  • It's lemon and lime peels, crystallized in sugar, and mixed. Sometimes they throw some crystallized cherries in there as well. Essential for fruitcakes and plum puddings.

  • I should probably add that I seem to remember there being a fair amount of some kind of gelatin-y stuff as well, so overindulgence might cause spongy holes in your brain. But maybe the combination of fire and alcohol would cauterize the bejasus out of any lurking prions.
