  • Can anyone find an etymology? I couldn't.

  • http://www.theoi.com/Thaumasios/SatyroiNesioi.html has me wondering whether there's a word nesios in some Greek dialect meaning 'island', but I'm not a classicist, trying online translators hasn't produced one, and there seems to be an awkward word gnesios which has a completely unrelated meaning.

  • The word is in MW2, with derivation given as Greek nesiotes; that dictionary also lists -nesia as a suffix meaning islands (Polynesia, Micronesia). MW3 doesn't have "nesiote" but lists a prefix neso- for island, from Greek nesos, related to Greek nechein to swim.
