  • (Obsolete) A term of abuse for a showily vain or fashionable person; a coxcomb, a dandy.

    September 5, 2008

  • Yesterday one of my colleagues called someone a tuzzy-muzzy. I wonder if he knew about physbuttocke.

    September 5, 2008

  • Perhaps you'd like to inform him?

    September 5, 2008

  • I will. Actually, I looked up his term in the usual dictionaries and it means nothing more insulting than tussy-mussy. But I just looked up "tuzzy-muzzy" in the 1811 Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue, where I'm sure he got said term... Well, I'll just enter it on its own page...

  • Ooh. Perhaps you'd like to inform him of that, too. ;-)

    September 5, 2008

  • He knew. He said he felt bad calling a guest that, in the course of a show, but the guest laughed his a$$ off and thought it was hilarious. (Obviously didn't know the meaning...) Said colleague loves to find archaic insulting words that aren't offensive but sound like swear words. He's very good at it!

  • So no harm done--and it does sound funny. :-)
