Small, black dog originally bred to be kept on sailing ships. By tradition these dogs are supposed to have nautical names. The only one I personally know of is named Mizzenmast.

That's an adorable name for a dog.
I always thought this dog breed was called schipperke, but I like this spelling better. Also didn't know it was bred for sailing ships. Cool!

I had to look up the spelling to be sure. There are several alternatives, including schipperke, schiperke, skipperke, and skipperkey. Some may be misspellings. I decided to use the one I liked best.
