The first of the Normans to come to Ireland, at the invitation of Diarmaid Mac Murchadha, King of Leinster. He married Mac Murchadha's daughter, Aoife, and succeeded his father-in-law as King of Leinster. He is buried in Christchurch Cathedral in Dublin.
