Used in the same sense in Maine, at least as far back as the late eighties, when I was waiting tables and served many a touron. We referred to ourselves as waitrons.

Cool! I've never heard it used anywhere else. I suspect ME and AK are in similar situations regarding strange visitors in Winnebagos.

Ah, so waitron isn't a local coinage either! I first heard that a good 20 years ago in PA.
