  • "tuppers" is a word that I invented myself. You will not (or should not!) be able to find it in any dictionary EVER, because I MADE IT UP. It was inspired by many years of love and devotion to J.R.R Tolkien's The Lord of The Rings. Being a linguist himself, I thought it only natural to add a word inspired by what he created to a site that celebrates words of all kinds.

In my imagination, I meant for this word to be used by the Hobbits, their many meals (breakfast, second breakfast, elevensies, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, supper etc etc), "tuppers" is used to define process of the continuous consumption of food and drink for the whole day. Basically, always eating. When I snack, I always say "time for my tuppers!" Tuppers is a great word, its fun to say and very flexible; I have a friend who was anorexic who used it to describe the complete opposite - continuosly NOT eating! This was however, not a good thing. Okay, bad example... but in a nutshell tuppers is good and should be enjoyed and celebrated, so please, dig in and savour the taste!

  • It reminds me of Tupperware, so the meaning makes sense. Although I think my favorite Tolkien word for meal has to be elevensies - talk about genius!! That's almost Carroll-like in its inspired absurdity.
