not sure if i spelled it correctly. i first heard it on Red Dwarf, a late 80's-early 90's Britcom. since RD was famous for made-up words, i'm not sure if this is a real word or another bit of Red Dwarvian creativity.

I'm pretty sure this wasn't made up by Red Dwarf. I think it was current in parts of England, especially perhaps the Midlands, in the 80's and 90's. You wouldn't hear it much if at all now. Basically analogous to berk or plonker.
