  • I know this word as a midwestern American regionalism for "askew". It's commonly used in my family; I wasn't aware of how rare it was outside my family until recently. The most detailed information I can find online is at World Wide Words. I'd love to discuss frequency and area of usage, if other users are familiar with the term. (Also spelling – I had always imagined it spelled "woperjod", obscuring the etymology.)

  • I use this a lot and I am in North Texas. The spelling that I would use is a little different though. I would spell it whoppy-jawed. I use it in the context of something not quite right. I don't remember where I first heard this word but I think my dad used it once.

I am excited that somebody else uses it and thanks for the info on it!
