  • I suggest this word be adopted to describe the effect produced when text constrained to a certain column width by the use of a hard return at the end of each line is copied and pasted into a field that requires a narrower line length, resulting in each line being broken into one longer and one shorter segment.

  • IMO, "icicle" has the best set of alternate spellings I know of. Check out its etymological entry on this site. Not all the forms listed there are English, but almost all of them are recognizably the same word.
