Most people agreed that the best method was to expose them to continuous sunlight; the resulting dyestuff, known as plateada or blanca for its powdery silver surface, was widely considered the top grade of cochineal. But since sun-drying, done property, could take up to two weeks, many producers experimented with cheaper techniques...."
