kopkadosch? It's Hungarian. I have no idea how to spell it, but it's an awesome game.

Bourré? Cajun spades (ish) - generally incomprehensible to an outsider due to speed and dialect issues.

Nice one, trivet! C_B, if you can find the spelling on that, let me know! I tried searching for variants and couldn't find anything.

I'm not finding anything either. I learned it from a Swiss person in Australia, but years later met a Hungarian in Vermont, and he knew the game well--which argues that my Swiss friend was not mistaken in its name or origins.
Maybe someone else will recognize it from the rules... Unlimited players, each using his/her own deck of regular playing cards (all must have different backs), and no taking turns--all play at once. Each player counts out (I think) twelve cards which remain in a stack on the table. Then each player flips through his own deck three at a time (such as in the common version of Solitaire), and play begins when someone places an Ace (of any suit) on the table. Anyone can then place the next number (in this case 2) of the same suit on that Ace, and so upward to the King, or place their own Aces on the table. Each card placed in play earns the player one point.
I forget exactly how you get rid of your stash cards, but once a player has put all his stash cards in play, he may choose to say "Stop!" at any time. Play stops, and any cards left in the other players' stashes count as two points deducted from the score earned by putting each card in play.
Naturally, with up to twelve people playing, and everyone diving across the table to get their cards down first, it's not so much a card game as a contact sport. And it can get loud with cursing. :)

Uselessness, I finally asked a Hungarian. Here, check out kopkadàs. Or should I say, "read it and weep."
