I've been wanting to catalogue my library for years and never got around to it. I'm going to start adding the books (about 300, now) in the order (none!) that they sit on my shelves. I hope to get them organized, probably by period, soon! Wish me luck! The ones marked with * are the few I haven't read yet. My next list will be "Books I want to add to my library" (it's a long one...).

    Have you considered Librarything? It's very useful and lots of fun for this sort of thing.

    No. Wordie is the only "thing" I do online -- list/chat/fun/or other-wise! I don't do the other stuff...I don't have time and I've found my home here. But thanks so much for thinking of me! You're a doll! Come sit next to me on The Porch and we'll have a rock.

    BTW: The list of books I posted were the books on the first shelf of my library. Kind of an odd arrangement, I agree, I think I've placed my books in a way as to please the eye when taking in the shelves...or maybe I was just being lazy...

    Oh, but dontcry--if you ever do go elsewhere online, do try LibraryThing. It's great for this kind of thing.

    In fact, that's where I first heard about Wordie. John, didn't you work for LT for a while?

    How funny. I learnt about Library Thing via Wordie!

    It's great. Especially for those series of reference books where I was forever finding myself at book sales unable to remember which volumes I owned and which ones were familiar simply ’cause I'd borrowed them from libraries. With Library Thing on my mobile phone – no more inadvertent duplication!

    Compared to yours, my book shelf is pathetic dontcry. From left to right I have "Adobe GoLive 6 For Dummies", "Photoshop CS2", "How to Wow - Photoshop for Photography", "Word 2003 in Easy Steps", & "Starting an Online Business".

    Computers have taken over my life. I am one of them now.

    The first shelf of my library happens to be my "practical arts" shelf: The Australian Manual of Calligraphy; Edward Johnston's Writing & Illuminating & Lettering (Johnston belonged to the same crowd as William Morris and Eric Gill, and was responsible for the revival of hand lettering in the early 20th century); Your Penmanship, and Good Handwriting and How to Acquire It (two period pieces that my father bought in the 1950s - both quite beautiful and full of sensible advice); Jaxtheimer's How to Paint and Draw (another oldie, originally published in German in 1961). I find when it comes to "how to" books for the visual arts, anything published before I was born is almost always superior to the current crop of beautiful but insubstantial volumes. For a start, they assume the reader is serious and not out for instant gratification.

    Oh, pal, I'm listing from my library -- not my office! My office shelves reads much like yours...from where I'm sitting I can see, "Word Menu,"

    "A Browser's Dictionary," "AP Stylebook and Libel Manual," "Bartlett's Familiar Quotes," "The Living Bible," "Photoshop Bible," "Letterhead & Logo Design," a PMS swatchbook, and the really exciting list goes on & on...;)! But that does give me an idea for another list...as soon as I finish My Library and My Garage.

    This is the first time I've seen this list, and I was about to mention LibraryThing before seeing the earlier comments. I did work at LT for a bit, and it's definitely the best book community by far, online or off. One of the (many) nonsensical aspects of Wordie was that it was going to one-down LT--LT specialized in books, why not specialize in their atomic parts. Maybe the next step is a site for Lettrists.

    I love that Wordie is your one-stop-shop. It makes me want to cry, dontcry. But I won't :-)
