Zuccaciyecioglu, it's not possible to bump the "f-word" from the top 100 merely by getting more listing for other words in the top 100. The order might change, but they will still all be in the top 100. You need to target the words close to being in the top 100: lachrymose, moribund, myriad, twilight, diaphanous, sycophant, moxie, saturnine, insipid and apocryphal.

I'm sorry, I guess I just don't get the point of this. I applaud your efforts to keep the word "fuck" out of your child's vocabulary (after all, look what it did for me!), but ... couldn't you just print the list and modify it? Instead of adding a bunch of words to open lists where they may not belong? It strikes me as rather Rovean to deliberately rejigger the top 100 words for one's own purpose. But that's just my humble opinion, and I'll stand back now and let the words fly. Good luck. (Not trying to cause trouble, just genuinely puzzled!)

You need to find a way to copy the Hot 100 list as a text file, then delete the words you don't want your child to see.

Technically, Palooka, so far every 879th Wordie has added the f-word. I drop F-bombs with the best of them, but I don't think we need it in the Wordie Hot 100. As for a rejiggering the list, C_B, I've been trying to find the right verb for what I'm doing here all week. Thank you. I am a confessed rejiggerer. I'm not a hating mofo, and thanks for not telling me how to use Wordie. Why do you feel that it's your decision which words "we need" in the top 100? Isn't the top 100 a listing for ALL the users of the site? Enjoy the site and the community here, by all means, but please don't pass judgment and tell others how to use it.

Thanks, John. I'm not campaigning for or against any word in particular being in the top 100, but I do like gaming the system. I also think it's important to have taboo words. Their existence gives all words more meaning.

I'm reluctant to add words because someone suggests I should, for the quite spurious motive of making an artificial and sanitised Top 100. Personally I think s-word at number 1, and by a huge margin, is a bigger blight on humanity than f-word at 99. But in the end the rankings of words do reveal something about linguistic aesthetics and power; always keen to observe the reality however indigestible, I am aghast at seeing the rankings tampered with. gangerh's schadenfreudgeon is a good bit of fun I completely bought into; it is of a quite different magnitude as to what is being plotted here. I understand the reasoning behind it but that's not say the putsch doesn't have wider ramifications. Fie.

I'd like to keep fuck on the 100 list simply because of the appalling dearth of monosyllabic words there.
There were four when I made this list almost a year ago; now moist has gone and only three are left, gasping for breath in a choking Sargasso Sea of sesquipedalia.
Edit: I was wrong; moist is still flourishing. Still, four out of a hundred is four percent, and I call that disappointing.
