I like mess, which mentally I associate with the army and probably also succinctly describes the comestibles.
Chipper is a Britishism for a shop selling predominantly fish and chips. Do not discount the possibility of fried Mars Bars.
When I went to school in Australia, we could buy lunch at the tuck shop.
Osteria in Italy traditionally meant a 'people's restaurant' but could be any kind of joint these days.
