I know this word as a midwestern American regionalism for "askew". It's commonly used in my family; I wasn't aware of how rare it was outside my family until recently. The most detailed information I can find online is at World Wide Words. I'd love to discuss frequency and area of usage, if other users are familiar with the term. (Also spelling – I had always imagined it spelled "woperjod", obscuring the etymology.)
