Haven't consulted Gladwell. I found this spelling in a blazoning I ran across. Reminds me of Spanish onda, wave.

Hernesheir: I always forget about la onda (and La Onda--with its jipitecas) because I so childishly adore saying "Hola, ola" when I'm around surfistas.
