The bright side of this great list reminds me of the etymology of birch, from the (unatested) Proto-Indo-European root *bhereg-, meaning "gleaming, white". The bark of many birch tree species is bright white. Interesting also that the ash tree genus name Fraxinus also stems from this root, via Latin.
